RIVERTON – Ronald E. Craycraft, 67, of Riverton, formerly of Farmersville, died at 11:11 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at his residence with his family by his side, after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born March 18, 1942, in Granite City, the son of Frank and Katherine Zalar of Farmersville and Shadrack Craycraft of Granite City. He married Mary Ann Patterson on Feb. 2, 1979.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Katherine; father, Shadrack; and a grandson, Korey Getz.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Craycraft of Riverton; four daughters, Katherine (husband, Kelly) Getz of Rochester, Kimberly Durbin (companion, Neal Gregory) of Springfield, Ronette (husband, Jeff) Oller of Waverly Hall, Ga., and Nicole (husband, Jason) Woodbury of Riverton; a son, Russell (wife, Janet) Craycraft of Iona, Texas; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Sharon (husband, Ron) Langen of Farmersville; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and stepfather, Frank Zalar of Farmersville.
Ronald was a resident of Riverton for 30 years.
He was a coalminer, retiring from Freeman United Coal Mine. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of St. James Church. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid race fan.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 21, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home, with a prayer service beginning at 4 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, June 22, 2009, at St. James Church in Riverton, with the Rev. Joseph Ring. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors.
