Ronald C. Melcher, 53, of Sherman, died at 5:47 am, Sunday, March 6, 2011 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. He was born July 21, 1957 in Springfield, Illinois to Walter Russell and Edna May Gust Melcher, Jr. He married Tanni Lovelace on August 15, 2010 and she survives him. Also suriving are his father; one son, Brandon Melcher of Springfield, 2 step-sons, J.T. (Ashley) Lovelace of Auburn and Adam Lovelace of Sherman; one step-daughter, Jennifer (Chris) Mogren of Chatham; one sister Carolyn (David) Fickas of Springfield; three brothers Walter Melcher, III, Richard Melcher both of Springfield and Kevin (Barbara) Melcher of Maryville, IL.; four step-grandchildren and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
His mother and sister-in-law, Lana “Toy” Melcher preceded him in death.
Ronald was a U.S. Army veteran; a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and Springfield Bicycle Club. He enjoyed cycling and cycled in Lance Armstrong’s LiveStrong Challenge in memory of “Toy”. In addition to cycling, he enjoyed photography, architecture design, model trains and traveling.
He owned and operated Ron Melcher Trucking contracting with the United Stated Postal Service the past 24 years.
Visitation: 3-5 pm, Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Funeral Service: 5 pm, Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Reverend Greg Busboom officiating.
