Rodney Gene Forsyth, 71, of Springfield, died at St. John’s Hospice on Friday, March 24, 2017. He was born September 15, 1945, in Springfield, to Paul and Jennie Black Forsyth, and they preceded him in death. He married Margaret Law on February 14, 1970.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; three daughters, Stacey Forsyth, Rhonda (Kirk) Herren, and Melissa Chea, all of Springfield; seven grandchildren, Pon, Donte’ and Steffan Forsyth and Jonah, Micah and Zoey Herren; three great grand-children: Eliyas, Ayannah and Serenity, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Noah Herren, four brothers and two sisters.
Rodney was a US Army veteran and was employed as a custodian for District 186 School District for 30 years. He was of Catholic faith and a former member of the Eagles.

Visitation: 9-10 am, Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 10 am, Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Kevin Mann officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where Sangamon County Inter Veterans will conduct military honors.
