SPRINGFIELD – Rocky Allen Avery, 43, of Springfield, formerly of Greenview, died at 7:42 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 19, 1965, in Beardstown, the son of Francis C. Spud and Cora I. Casey Dowland Avery.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; stepfather, Ray Curry; and a brother, John W. Hicks.
He is survived by his fiancee, Barb Red Shirley of Springfield; two stepsons, Taylor and Jordan Shirley of Springfield; two sisters, Lela Ruth Hicks of Portage, Wis., and Jackie (husband, Bill) Critchelow of Chandlerville; stepsister, Deb (partner, John Carpenter) Pelligrini of Springfield; three brothers, Sam (wife, Judy) Hicks of Mounds and Danny Hicks of Calvert City, KY and Carlos Avery; three stepbrothers, Ed (wife, Maryann) Curry of Riverton, Gary (wife, Ruth) Curry of Easton and Kevin (wife, Pam) Curry of Greenview; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He worked as a carpenter and was the owner of Avery Construction.
Rocky was a lover of the outdoors, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing and restoration of classic cars and bars. He was a great family man and friend.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until time of funeral services at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home.
Donations may be made to an education fund for Taylor and Jordan Shirley in care of Security Bank.
