Robert W. Sokolis, Sr., 83, of Springfield, died at 10:32 am, Thursday, August 2, 2012 at his home. He was born August 20, 1928 in Springfield, IL to John and Katherine Provilski Sokolis. He married Wanda Long on August 29, 1954 and she survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Patricia Jonette (Jeffery D.) Lanane of Springfield; one son, Robert W. (Debra S.) Sokolis, Jr. of Springfield; four grandchildren, Jon, Kyle, Haley and Andrew; three great grandchildren, Jordan, Conner and Abbigail, one sister, Margaret Campo of Ohio and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and six sisters.
Robert was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a member of Luther Memorial Evangelical Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing and gardening, especially roses. He was a St. Louis Cardinals fan and a life member of VFW #755.
He was a lifelong resident of Springfield and was a machine operator at Pillsbury Manufacturing, retiring after 44 years.

Lie-in-State: 10:30-11:30 am Monday, August 6, 2012 at Luther Memorial Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Funeral Service: 11:30 am, Monday, August 6, 2012 at Luther Memorial Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor William Zanton and Pastor Ron Moorman officiating.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where Sangamon County Interveterans will conduct military honors.
