SPRINGFIELD – Robert L. Norman, 56, of Springfield died at 5:06 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 16, 1950, in Springfield, the son of Donald and Gladys Blakeley Norman. He married Mary Isabelle Hughes on Sept. 2, 1972, at Elliott Avenue Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Ronald Norman; a brother-in-law, Bob Hughes; and father-in-law, Floyd Hughes.
Mr. Norman, a lifelong resident of Springfield, was forced into retirement from Bunn Capitol Co. in October 2006 after 28 years as router/foreman. Prior to that, he was a truck driver for ELM Transit. He ran booth 57 at Lisa’s Antique Mall.
He was a 1968 graduate of Springfield High School and a member of Elliott Avenue Baptist Church and the Pekin Bottle Club.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Isabelle Norman of Springfield; daughter, Catherine Cathy Norman (husband, Daniel) Waters of Sherman; son, Robert Bob Floyd Norman of St. Louis; a granddaughter, Isabelle Marie Waters; mother, Gladys Stephens of Springfield; four sisters, Margaret Peggy (husband, Wil) Kane of Springfield, Donna (husband, Charlie) Cook of Dawson, Nancy (husband, Jim) Kates of Rochester and June Ann Jones of Beardstown; and two brothers, Lloyd (wife, Elaine) Robertson and Larry (wife, Kathy) Norman, both of Springfield.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, at Staab Funeral Home. Remains will lie-in-state from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, at Elliott Avenue Baptist Church, with the Rev. Roger Jackson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Elliott Avenue Baptist Church, Lake Springfield Baptist Camp, Victory Junction Camp or Living Faith Mission Fund.
