Robert L. “Bob” Folder 78 of Springfield died on November 6, 2014, at Memorial Medical Center. Bob was born in Springfield, Illinois on October 25, 1936 to Joseph L. and Bertha Dixon Folder. He married Mary
L. Moore on October 5, 1958 at Grace Lutheran Church.

Bob was a 1954 graduate of Feitshans High School. He served in the U.S. Army, First Cavalry in Korea stationed at an outpost camp near the demilitarized zone. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.

He worked as a welder at Allis Chalmers Mfg. Co. Then as a union glazier for Capitol Glass Co. and later
was co-owner of ABC Glass Co. He spent many hours repairing and replacing the art leaded glass at the
Thomas Publishing Co., now the Dana-Thomas House.

Bob’s lifelong love of fishing and especially fly fishing lead him to his vocation. He was a self-taught professional fishing fly tyer and lure maker. His products were sold under the name of Bob’s Fly Tying
and Bob Folder Lures throughout the country and exported to Australia and Japan. He was a member of the American Fishing Tackle Manufacturers Association where his products were exhibited at trade shows. Bob and his wife also exhibited his products at sport shows throughout the Midwest.

Bob had a lot of patience and an easy going congenial personality. He loved designing new flies and lures using different and new materials. He was an accomplished angler and very proud of his products which were all hand-tyed and manufactured in Springfield, Illinois. He loved talking about and selling his lures. Bob was extremely proud of his Pearl Tinsel Crappie Jigs, which were the favorite of many fishermen. He hand-tyed hundreds of thousands of lures in his lifetime.

Surviving are his wife of fifty-six years, Mary, sons Todd R. of Springfield and Grant D. of Chatham. Also
surviving are his brother, Mike (wife Carol) and sister, Alice Griffith both of Springfield and several
nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Phyllis Folder, Rose Powell and RuthAnn Richards; brothers, Richard, John and Jim.

    Visitation: 4-7 pm Thursday, November 13, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home.

Funeral Service:  1:30 pm, Friday, November 14, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Thomas Christell officiating.  Burial will follow at Farmington Cemetery, where Sangamon County Inter-Veterans will conduct Military Honors.
