Robert John Francis Wolf, 87, of Springfield, died at 10:18 pm, Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at the Illinois Veteran’s Home in Quincy. He was born February 27, 1929 in Kokomo, IN, to John Albert and Florence Scherneck Wolf. He married Alta Higgenbotham on May 11, 1957 and she preceded him in death on February 13, 2014.
Survivors include seven daughters, Theresa (Reg Dunham) Webber of Springfield, Mary (Bill) Brown of Springfield, Barbara (Preston) Correll of Ashland, Angela May Hamrick of Springfield, Kathy Wolf of Buffalo, Judy (Neil) Hervey of Springfield and Christine Wolf of Buffalo; three sons, Paul R. Wolf and John E. Wolf both of Springfield and Timothy A. (Fred Nunez) Wolf of San Diego, CA; sixteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; two nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son, Anthony; one sister Joan Donath and one brother Paul Wolf.\
Robert was a decorated U S Army War Veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a member of the Church of the Little Flower where he served as usher and was a member of the Men’s Club for over forty years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree, the VFW Post 10302; American Legion Post 32; Catholic War Veterans and Korean War Veterans 5th RCT Association. He served with the Sangamon County Inter Veterans Burial Detail for many years until the age of 80. He was a regular blood donor and was a member of the Communication Workers Union AFL-CIO-CLC. He played Santa Claus for multiple organizations throughout the years. Robert worked for the State Journal-Register as a printer, retiring after forty years of service.
Visitation: 4-7 pm, Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with a prayer service at 4 pm.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 am, Friday, February 3, 2017 at Church of the Little Flower with Reverend Allen Kemme officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
