Robert J. Rodems, 86, of Springfield, died at 10:50 am, Saturday, January 11, 2014 at his home. He was born June 25, 1927 in Springfield, Illinois, to George Otis and Josephine Frances Dolanz Rodems. He married Mary Jane Sexton on February 14, 1953 and she survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Maryellen Rodems of Northridge CA; three sons, Robert K., and John D. (Sandra) Rodems both of Springfield and Dennis (Kathleen) Rodems of Auburn; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Lou Sponsler of Sun City West, AZ; one brother, Jim (Carol) Rodems of Springfield and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother David Rodems and one granddaughter, Rachel Rodems.
Robert was a member of St. Cabrini Church where he served as an usher. He was a US Army Veteran serving from 1950-1952. He was a do-it-yourselfer who enjoyed gardening and being outdoors.
He worked at Sangamo Electric for thirty-nine years as a machinist and then worked for ten years in the maintenance department for Ursuline Academy.
Visitation: 9:30 – 10:30 am, Thursday, January 16, 2014 at St. Cabrini Church.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 am, Thursday, January 16, 2014 at St. Cabrini Church with Reverend Richard Chiola officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery were Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors.
