CHATHAM – Robert Eugene Richardson, 84, of Chatham died at 2:25 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at Sunrise Manor in Virden.
He was born Feb. 18, 1925, in Springfield, the son of John Thomas and Marie Carver Richardson. He married Alma Ruth Wilson on March 28, 1947.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant children.
He is survived by his wife, Alma Ruth Richardson of Chatham; nine children, Linda (Larry) Novak of Glenarm, Ronald (Faye) Richardson of Chatham, Beverly (Charles) Treat of Waverly, John Chip (Kathy) Richardson of Springfield, Jim Richardson of Florida, Clyde (Vicki) Richardson of Springfield, Stephen Richardson of Wyoming, Richard Richardson of Chatham, and David (Jolynn) Richardson of Taylorville; 23 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; five siblings; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Robert was a resident of Chatham most of his life. He was a laborer for the Teamsters Union.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II. He was a life member of Chatham VFW Post 4063.
A memorial gathering will be held from 5 p.m. until memorial services at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home, with the Rev. Rick Wenneborg officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
