SPRINGFIELD – Robert Cox Simmons, 71, of Springfield died at 2 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 12, 1937, in Springfield, the son of Robert L. and Lorene Cox Simmons. He married Jo Ann Swigert on Nov. 9, 1966.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Simmons of Springfield; five children, Cathy (Ron) Wenneborg of Chatham, Deanne (Richard) Mulkins of Springfield, Chuck (Delia) Simmons of Lakewood, Colo., Michael (Angela) Simmons of Wheat Ridge, Colo., and Lynn (Andrew) Bee of Chatham; eight grandchildren, Aaron Wenneborg, Crystal England, Ricky Mulkins, Charlee Simmons, Kayla Simmons, Zachary and Joel Simmons and Meredith Bee; six great-grandchildren, Amanda, Ryan, Ed, Austin, Melany and Anna; two half sisters; and several cousins.
Robert was a resident of Springfield for most of his life. He was a retired HVACR pipe fitter with Local 137.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Funeral services will begin at noon Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home, with visitation held one hour prior. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where Sangamon County Interveterans will conduct military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Animal Protective League.
