SPRINGFIELD – Robert B. Woody Wood, 75, of Springfield died at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at his home.
He was born Feb. 2, 1934, in Peoria, the son of Albert and Mabel Followell Wood. He married Barbara J. Valenti on May 16, 1972.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Brittany Wood; two sisters, Rosemary Peters and Judy Wood; and five brothers, Donald, Roger, Dwight, Roland and Paul.
He is survived by his wife, Barb J. Wood of Springfield; a son, Robert Chip Wood of Springfield; two brothers, Lewis Tony (Esther) Wood of Minneapolis and Samuel E. (Beth) Wood of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Robert was a Springfield resident for the past six years. He worked for Sentinel Pest Control for 25 years as a fumigator. He formerly was a caterer at Robin Roberts Ball Park, and he also worked at Wayne’s Red Coach Inn.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving in Korea. He was a member of Springfield Masonic Lodge 4, Ansar Shrine and Legion of Honor. He was an avid hunter, especially of deer.
A memorial gathering will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home. The family will be conducting a graveside service at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail.
