Rita A. Matthews, 64, of Springfield, died at 8:59 pm, Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Villa East Healthcare in Sherman. She was born March 26, 1952 in Pawnee, to Tony and Mary Katcher. She married Emery “Tom” Matthews on September 23, 1972 and he preceded her in death on August 19, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas (Julie) Matthews of Springfield and Nikolas E. Matthews of Ashland; five grandchildren, Alaina Matthews, Emery Matthews, Ashton Ryan, Clayton and Elizabeth Matthews; one brother, Phil (Debbie) Katcher and two nieces, Anne Welek and Beth Darling and several cousins.
Rita was a member of St. Aloysius church. She worked as a clerk for the State of Illinois.
Visitation: 9-10 am, Monday, November 14, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home.
Private Graveside Service: will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Pawnee.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
