Richard ‘Rico’ Roscetti, 89, died at 5:30 pm, Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at St. John’s Hospice.
He was born December 20, 1919 in Calascio, Italy, the son of Valentino and Angela Rusciolelli Roscetti.
He married Anna Mae Fulgenzi in 1947. She preceded him in death on February 9, 2008. Mr. Roscetti had been a resident of Springfield since 1952. He retired from Pillsbury Mills in 1975 after 25 years and then retired from the Secretary of State after 10 years. He was a member of the American Federation of Grain Millers- Local 24, St. Aloysius Church and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 10302, Charter member of Riverton Athletic Club and was also a member of the ‘Old Timers Club’.
Mr. Roscetti was a US Army Veteran of World War II 9th Infantry Division. He participated in the invasion of North Africa, the battles of French Morocco, Algiers, Tunisia, Sicily, France, Cherbourg, and Normandy (D-Day). He was awarded the following medals; Purple Heart, six overseas Service bars, two gold and one silver battle stars, Good Conduct Medal and Bronze Star.
He is survived by a son, Rick(wife, Teri) Roscetti of Sherman, IL ; three grandchildren, Ashleigh, Nick, and Joe Roscetti; brother, Eddie ‘Watty'(wife Lorraine) Roscetti of Riverton, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Zelinda Vespa, Mary Antonacci and Lena Cummins.
Visitation will be at St. Aloysius Church from 10:00 am until 11:00am, Monday, June 15, 2009.
Funeral Mass will be at St. Aloysius Church, Monday, June 15, 2009 11:00 am with Rev. Mark A. Schulte officiating.
Interment at Camp Butler National Cemetery where Sangamon County Inter Veterans Burial Detail will conduct Military Honors.
