Richard Lee Grossnickle, 49, of Edinburg, died at 4:47 pm, Thursday, July 26, 2012 at his home. He was born May 28, 1963 in Decatur, Illinois to Glenanne Farrington. He married Leah Ann Ziegler on September 20, 1997 and she survives.
Also surviving are one sister Michelle (David) Pugh of Springfield and several nieces and nephews including Chris & Nicole Pugh of Springfield.
His parents preceded him in death.
Richard attended Blessed Sacrament School and graduated from Springfield High School. He served proudly in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division, Air Assault. He served two tours in Afghanistan. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart
He was baptized and received first communion at Blessed Sacrament Church. He enjoyed cars, motorcycles and dirt bike riding; loved the outdoors and animals; was an accomplished guitarist and an excellent marksman.
Visitation: 5-7 pm, Monday, July 30, 2012 at Staab Funeral Home with a prayer service at 5 pm.
Memorial Mass: 10:30 am, Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at Blessed Sacrament Church with Reverend Jeffrey Grant officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where Sangamon County Interveterans and the United States Army will conduct military honors.
