EDINBURG – Richard L. Peacock of Edinburg died at 12:20 p.m. Sunday, May 23, 2010, peacefully at his home, surrounded by family and friends after a battle with cancer.
He was born June 29, 1947, in Springfield, Illinois to Leonard D. and Eva H. Stengel Peacock. He married Ellen Collins on Nov. 29, 1969, and she survives.
Also surviving are 1 daughter, Jody (Steve) Vance of Mason City; 1 son, James (Julie) Peacock of Edinburg; 5 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Leonard J.
Richard was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1965-1968. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville and American Legion Post 0073 in Taylorville. He was a diehard St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed fishing.
He was a resident of Edinburg since 1978 and was formerly of Springfield. Richard was store manager for Grandview IGA and Taylorville Food Center.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at Staab Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 4 p.m. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 27, 2010, at Camp Butler National Cemetery, with Rev. Daniel Willenborg officiating. Sangamon County Interveterans will conduct military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society .
