Richard A. Palmer, 71, of Springfield, formerly of Canton, IL, passed away on June 28 at Memorial Medical Center. Rick was born on Dec. 10, 1939, in Avon, IL, the son of Byron and Fern (Alden) Palmer. He married Mary Pickering on January 30, 1964 in Macomb, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew.
A 1958 graduate of Avon High School, Rick owned and operated Canton Stationery & Equipment in Canton, for several years. He later moved to Springfield where he retired from Info USA. He coached Little League baseball in Canton for several years and was an avid Cardinal fan.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; his 4 children, Tim (Wendi Norris) Palmer of Springfield, Barb (Jeff) Risner of North Aurora, IL, Carol (Ed) Vesely of Aurora, IL, and Bob (Shelba) Palmer of Springfield; 5 grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren, 2 brothers Bill (Kathy) Palmer of Canton and Jim (Kathy) Palmer of Bushnell, IL; 4 sisters, Betty (Skeet) Myers of Lewistown, IL, Joyce (Larry) Endres of Herrin, IL, Sandy Morehead of Colorado Springs, CO and Janet (Lynn) Schuchardt of Florida. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Cremation has been accorded by Staab Funeral Home. There will be no services. Memorials may be made to St. Jude or Disabled American Veterans.
