SPRINGFIELD – Regina L. Wheeling, 87, of Springfield died at 1 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at St. Joseph’s Home.
She was born September 7, 1922, in Pittsfield, the daughter of Edward and Lucy Kastner Wheeling. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John and Louis Wheeling; a sister, Frances Wheeler; and one niece, Carol Grietens.
She worked in Washington, D.C., at the Pentagon during World War II then returned to Springfield and worked at the State of Illinois Department of Finance before retiring.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church. She attended Cathedral Grade School and Feitshans High School.
Surviving are a sister, Mary Lou (Bernard A.) Endris of LaCrosse, Wis.; nieces and nephews, Alice Pope of Springfield, Lucille and Ray Whitt of Huntsville, Ala., Jack and Rosadelle Wheeling of Springfield, Paul and Vicki Endris of La Crosse, WI, Mark Endris and Rhonda Kenyon of Hillsdale, WI, John and Ivy Endris of Holmen, WI, and Edward and Patty Endris of La Crosse, WI.
A memorial gathering will be held from 9:30 a.m. until time of memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, at St. Joseph’s Home, with the Rev. Charles Dalby officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
