Ralph E. Williams
SPRINGFIELD – Ralph E. Williams, a lifelong resident of Springfield, IL, died May 12, 2007 at St. John’s Hospice at the age of 75. Ralph was born in Springfield, IL on October 18, 1931. His mother, Edith Witham, preceded him in death, as well as a sister, Beverly Bryant, and his father, Roy Williams.
He married Eloise M. Marcy on October 16, 1954 at the Springfield Church of the Brethren.
Ralph attended Feitshans High School; served as a firefighter in the United States Navy; was formerly employed by the A&P store on South Grand Avenue; and retired from the United States Post Office after 35 years of service as a letter carrier.
He was a member of Laurel United Methodist Church, Retired Letter Carriers, and Fit Club. He volunteered as an Escort at Memorial Medical Center for 13 years, Senior Citizens Daily Bread Program, Blackhawk School, Telecom Pioneers, and participated in many other volunteer and caring activities. An organ donation was made to the Eye Bank.
He is survived by his wife, Eloise; a brother, Bob (wife, Donna) Williams of Auburn, IL; a sister, Barbara (husband, Jay) Dyer of Mechanicsburg, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Monday, May 14th at Staab Funeral Home. Funeral will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 15th at Staab Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, in the Garden of the Good Shepherd. Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors. Reverend Dr. John Hamilton will officiate.
Memorials may be made to Laurel United Methodist Church, Memorial Medical Center Foundation, Telecom Pioneer Shoe Program, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
