SPRINGFIELD – Pelagia Bella Wall of Springfield passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at her home.
She was born July 10, 1925, in Wapowce, Poland to Dimitri and Tekla Michalecka.
She was forced into slave labor in Germany by the Nazis from 1939 through 1945. She never saw her family again.
She married Robert E. Wall in Germany in 1946 and came to America in 1948 with her first two children. Bella was proud to be a U.S. citizen since 1955.
Bella was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters and her beloved granddaughter, Shannon Jones Scott in 2005.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas P. (Gail) of Taylorville and Joseph L. (Debbie) of Edinburg; three daughters, Betsy Jones, Mary Ellen (Jim) Perry and Maggie (Tom) Page, all of Springfield.
There are nine grandchildren, Tom, Tim, Alicia, Kelly and Jennifer Wall; Eric and Emily Page; and James and Jeff Perry. There are four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2008, at St. Cabrini Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. following the visitation.
Cremation rites were accorded.
Memorials to St. Cabrini Church or Ovarian Cancer Research are suggested.
