SPRINGFIELD – Paula Jerdon, 85, of Springfield, formerly of Metropolis, died at 11:10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, 2009, at Lewis Memorial Christian Village.
She was born Oct. 11, 1923, in Quincy, Fla., the daughter of Marion H and Pauline Paula McCandless Whitton. She married William E. Jerdon in 1946; he preceded her in death on Sept. 8, 1997.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Marion F. Whitton.
She is survived by a sister, Judy (Gerald) Lamb and a nephew, Jerry Lamb, both of Jacksonville, Fla.
Paula was a resident of Springfield since 1946.
She was an accountant and tax preparer for Federated Funeral Directors of America, retiring on Jan. 1, 1987 after 20 years of service.
She was a member of First Christian Church of Springfield, Christian Women’s Fellowship, Friends of Lincoln Library, Adams Wildlife Sanctuary, Illinois and Springfield Audubon Societies, Animal Protective League, National Wildlife Federation, Disabled American Veterans-Auxiliary, and Woodmen of the World.
Graveside services will be held at noon Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at Camp Butler National Cemetery, with the Rev. Rick Irwin officiating.
Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to First Christian Church.
