Paul Francis “Hatch” Wernsing, 85, of Springfield died at 3:24 am Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at St. John’s Hospice. He was born July 18, 1927 in Teutopolis, IL to George and Florence Busse Wernsing. He married Helen Shinefield.
Surviving are his wife, Helen; three sons, Paul and Philip (Lori), both of Springfield and Patrick (companion, Bev) of Arizona; four grandchildren, Kaitlynn, Paige, Megan and Jeffrey; one brother, Robert Wernsing of Teutopolis and one niece, Andrea Wernsing.
Paul was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church. He retired from the State of Illinois as an insurance claims adjuster. He was a doorman for the State of Illinois House of Representatives. Mr. Wernsing was a Navy Veteran serving during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion. He was an avid tennis and softball player and loved horse racing.
Memorial Gathering: 10-11:30 am Monday, June 10, 2013 at Blessed Sacrament Church.
Memorial Mass: 11:30 am, Monday, June 10, 2013 at Blessed Sacrament Church with Reverend Jeffrey Grant officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to St. John’s Hospice, American Legion Post #32 or charity of donor’s choice.
