Opal V. Roberts, 92, of Springfield, died at 11:25 p.m. on Monday, September 27, 2010 at St. Johns Hospital. She was born June 12, 1918 in Chatham, IL, the daughter of Ola and Rosa Belle Sims Barker. She married Clarence A. Roberts on April 30, 1938 and he preceded her in death on January 20, 1996. Her parents; 3 brothers: Ola Barker, Jr., Homer ‘Gabe’ Barker and Frank Barker; 3 sisters: Genevieve Harney, Pearl Phillips and Lucille Cole and 1 son: Dennis Roberts also preceded her in death.
Opal is survived by her caregiver of 10 years and niece: Alyce White of Springfield, former daughter-in-law: Janet Ammons of Clarksville, TN; 2 grandsons: Jason W. and Darren L. Roberts both of Clarksville, TN; 4 great grandchildren, 1 sister: Bessie Schleyhahn of Girard and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was a member of Christian Assembly Church, was an avid reader and was a great lover of animals. Opal was a homemaker. She was a resident of Springfield most of her life.
Visitation: 4-6 p.m., Thursday, September 30, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 1, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
