Opal I. Diaz, age 85, of Springfield, IL, died at 2:42 a.m. on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 in Vandalia, IL. She was born October 29, 1926 in the New Berlin area to Luther and Odie Saltzman Taylor. She was preceded in death by her parents, son: Jerry Hudson, three brothers: Lester, Luther and Virgil Taylor, one sister: Zelma Launius, one half brother: Andy Taylor and one half sister: Pearl Page.
She is survived by her sister: Betty Dressendorfer of Frankston, TX; two grandchildren: Billy Hudson of Decatur, IL and Jerry Hudson Hack of Tyler, TX; several great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, including Shirley Spradlin of Effingham, IL.
Opal was employed by General Electric and was a caregiver. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and Moose Lodge Auxiliary. She resided in Decatur for many years and Palestine, TX from 1976-2005.
Visitation: 10 – 11 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2012 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2012 at Staab Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pleasant Plains Cemetery.
