SPRINGFIELD – Norma Atwood Satterfield Carr, 88, of Springfield died at 12:35 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2008, at Regency Nursing Care Residence.
She was born June 27, 1919, in Herrin, the daughter of Earl Lawrence and Iva Mae Kemp Atwood. She married Willard Carr on April 25, 1953; and he preceded her in death in 1993. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Robert Earl Atwood.
Mrs. Carr taught school for more than five years in Hurst Bush at Herrin Township High School and Lanphier High School from 1954-71.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Retired Teachers Association, Illinois Educations Association and SIU Lifetime Alumni. She graduated from Herrin Township High School and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. She was a past member of Wives of Highway Engineers, past member of Anchor Boat Club and was a Girl Scout leader.
Surviving are a daughter, Kay Satterfield Maier Blue (husband, John) of Springfield; four grandchildren, Matthew (wife, Beth) Maier of Pendleton, Ind., Megan (husband, Rick) Holzmacher of Springfield, Geoffrey (wife, Stacey) Maier of Bloomington and Michaelle Maier of Springfield; three great-grandchildren, Alec and Kyra Holzmacher and Sophia Maier; an aunt; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 20, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home. Services will be held there at 1 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2008, with the Rev. Vincent Rohn officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
