Nellie "Jo Ann" Smith

Nellie “Jo Ann” Smith, 78, of Loami, died at 6:21 pm, Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center.  She was born September 16, 1939 in Glenarm, IL to Charlie and Nellie (Thomae) Bale. She married Willard “Darrell” Smith on March 17, 1968 and he preceded her in death on June 21, 2017.

Surviving are one daughter, Kristina Lynn Underwood of Loami; two sons, Scott Edwin Smith of Benton and David Allen (Janet) Smith of Springfield, TN; six grandchildren, Kayla Underwood, Kameron Underwood, Caeson Smith, Hunter Dorris, Vivian Dorris and Daniel Smith; one great granddaughter, Ava Underwood; three sisters, June Skinner of Michigan, Wilma (Bob) Minder of Loami and Kathryn (Bill) Meriwether of Springfield and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Charlene Rimkus.

Jo Ann was a member of the first graduating class of Glenwood High School. She was a homemaker.  She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and needlework and loved spending time with her family and friends.

Family will host a celebration of life at a later date with burial at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ball Township Class Reunion c/o Marine Bank.
