Ned J. Burge, Jr., 81, of Chatham, died at 1:21 pm, Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at St. John’s Hospital.  He was born May 16, 1933 in Springfield, to Ned and Frances Penny Burge.  He married Phyllis Casper on October 6, 1951 and she survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Dianne (Dr. Joseph) Whalen of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; two sons, Ned (Denise) Burge, III and Mark (Diane) Burge both of Chatham; five grandchildren, Kerry (Jared) Peters, Stephanie (Christopher) Burge-Bollero, Marie Burge and Devon and Riley Foster; two great grandchildren, Mailee and Kinley and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

His parents preceded him in death.

Ned was a member and the first president of Midstate Kart Club.  He enjoyed playing shuffle board, gardening and watching NASCAR and the Chicago Bears. He was a U.S. Army veteran severing with the First Calvary during the Korean Conflict.

He was owner and operator of Burge Glazing Contractors, Inc. until his retirement in September of 2014.

Visitation:  3-5 pm, Sunday, October 26, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home.

Funeral Service:   10 am, Monday, October 27, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Gifford officiating.  Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery where Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society.
