SHERMAN, IL- Nancy Slagel, 92, died Friday, January 5, 2018 at her home where she lived with her daughter. Nancy was born in Boston, Massachusetts on September 28, 1925 to Mike and Grace Beninato (Melchiorre Beninati and Grazia Termini). She moved to Springfield as a young girl and settled with her parents and three brothers; Benjamin (Tina) Beninato (both deceased) of Kansas City, MO, Joe (Betty, deceased) Beninato and Nicholas (Shirley, deceased) Beninato of Springfield.
Nancy graduated from Feitshans High School in 1943 and married John Slagel on March 17, 1944, he died January 4, 2002. Nancy is the mother of two daughters, Nancy (Ralph, deceased) Bartolomucci and Linda (Ex-Randy) Monroe both of Sherman. There are five grandchildren; Mark (Sara) Bartolomucci, Dina (Jon) Bailey, Christopher (Lisa) Bartolomucci, Angelina (Anthony) Bollero and Livia (Dan Hankins) Monroe. There are six great-grandchildren; Marissa (Scott) Hollensteiner, Tony Bartolomucci, Giuliana Bailey (Fiancé Ryan Vande Zande), Nicholas Bailey, Adrianna Bartolomucci, Francesca Bollero, and Ginger Aschenbrenner mother of Adrianna. Nancy’s husband John’s cousin and dearest friend, Mary Kay Collier.
Nancy was a stay at home Mom who shared a lifelong friendship with the “bowling girls” who evolved to the “UNO girls” who passed before her. Her last years were spent surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren whom she loved very much.
Visitation: 12:30-1:30 PM, Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield.
Funeral Service: 1:30 PM, Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield with Reverend George Nellikunnel officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
