Nancy L. Evans-Schaefer, 72, of Springfield, died at 11:46 am, Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born on February 15, 1947 in Springfield to John J. and Josephine (Skrele) Peidl. She married William D. Evans, Sr. on March 18, 1967 and he preceded her in death on February 23, 1985.

She is survived by one daughter, Amy (husband, Jack) Calvin of Chatham, IL; one son, William D. Evans, Jr. of Springfield; six grandchildren, Billy Evans III, Jonathan Calvin, Lauren Calvin, Kailey Evans, Johnny Evans, Jr. and Billy Evans; two sisters, Donna L. Schuchardt of Springfield and Mary Ann Rogers of Pleasant Plains; several nieces and nephews and her special cat J.D.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and one son, John Oliver Evans on May 3, 2009.

Nancy was a graduate of Ursuline Academy. She worked as a beautician and nail technician. She loved spending time with her family and grandkids. Nancy had been very involved with figure skating and hockey with her children. She was a CASA advocate. Nancy was also very creative. She would sew the beading on her daughter’s skating costumes and most recently, loved to color in her adult coloring books. Nancy was an avid online shopper and loved her animals.

The family will host a celebration of life gathering from 9-10 am, Monday, February 25, 2019 at St. Joseph the Worker Church in Chatham. A memorial service will follow at 10 am. Burial will be a Camp Butler National Cemetery at a later date.
