August 21, 1931 - December 19, 2009

SPRINGFIELD – Milfred Crumbaugh departed this life to be with his Lord December 19, 2009, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born in 1931, to Elisha and Effie Crumbaugh in Rockview, MO, he lived 78 joy-filled years.

His life and legacy are celebrated by his wife of 54 years, Camille Crumbaugh; children, Steve (Elena) Crumbaugh, Jeanette Martin, Bill (Lisa) Crumbaugh; grandchildren, Joshua (Erin), Andrew (Ramona), Matthew and Emily Martin, Nikolai, Emma and Anna Crumbaugh; great-grandchildren, Hunter and Hannah Martin; sisters, Ruth Long and Mildred Eldridge.

His parents and brother, Charles, passed before him.

Milfred served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps from 1952-1954. He retired from the IL Department of Transportation. For 50 years he has been active in Springfield First Baptist Church, serving as deacon and trustee. He was a hunter safety instructor for decades and a Boy Scout leader since 1966. He served on the Abraham Lincoln Council Executive Board and for 32 years served as parade marshal of the Lincoln Pilgrimage. He received the OA Vigil Honor, District Award of Merit and Silver Beaver.

Milfred was an avid outdoorsman, a loving family man and a friend to all who knew him. We mourn his passing, but thank God he was part of our lives.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home. Milfred will lie-in-state from 10-10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 23, 2009, at Springfield First Baptist Church, where a funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Whitehouse officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Springfield First Baptist Church or the Abraham Lincoln Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
