Mildred I. McGaw, 94, of Springfield, died at 10:00 p.m., Thursday, July 29, 2010 at Oak Terrace Healthcare. She was born on February 14, 1916 in Springfield, IL to George W. and Fleta Carter Taylor. She married Samuel Elliott McGaw on August 28, 1940 and he preceded her in death on March 17, 1975. Her parents, 3 sisters and 3 brothers also preceded her in death.
Mildred is survived by 2 daughters: Karen Lee (James) Watts of Riverton and Linda (Wayne) Mitchell of Bastrop, TX; 1 son: Samuel Eugene (Carolee) McGaw of Springfield; 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
She was a lifetime member of Elliott Avenue Baptist Church, Red Hat Society at Hickory Glenn, retired State Police Womens Auxiliary, Berean Bible Class and Fa-Ho-Cha mission circle. She enjoyed needlepoint. Mildred was a lifelong resident of Springfield. She was a homemaker and also retired from School district 186 after 15 years as a manager at Hazel Dell Cafeteria and also worked at Clara’s cafeteria on the state fairgrounds.
Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m., Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at Elliott Avenue Baptist Church with the service following at 11 a.m., Pastor Roger Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Elliott Avenue Baptist Church or the Charity of Donor’s choice
