Michael Perry Pierce, 65 of Riverton died Monday, January 16, 2012 at St. John’s Hospice. He was born on July 22, 1946 in Springfield, IL to Jack and Helen Prohaska Pierce.
Surviving are a daughter; Tonia (Randy) Kiddy and a son, Michael C. (Amy) Pierce, both of Springfield, two grandchildren, two sisters, Sharon (Mike) Bedolli and Mary Lynn (Joe) Giacommini both of Sherman and a brother, Martin (Jane) Pierce of Chatham and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Michael was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1966 – 1968. He moved to Las Vegas, NV in 1976 until returning to Springfield in 2002. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 35 years. He also worked at Wal Mart in the meat department and opened and worked alongside his daughter at Mrs. Kiddys Cakes.
Graveside Service: 2 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2012 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Minister Tim Harris officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail.
