Michael P. Schnapp, 54, of Springfield, died at 8:04 a.m., Thursday December 15, 2011 at his home. He was born December 10, 1957 in Springfield to Kenneth B. and the late Patricia Ann Duffy Schnapp. He married his lifelong wife and partner, Kris P. Kelso and she survives.
He is also survived by two daughters: Melissa Ann (Travis) King and Amy Marie (Ryan) Dumonceaux both of Springfield; six grandchildren: Christian, Jace, Riley, Landon, Mia and Lanie; his father, Kenneth B. Schnapp of Springfield; one sister: Deborah Ann Mataya of Chicago; two brothers: Kenneth R. (Venetia) Schnapp of Chatham and Thomas E. (Theresa) Schnapp of Springfield and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Michael was of the Catholic faith. He was a member of Carpenters Local 16 and Knights of Columbus Council 364. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, golfing, playing the drums and was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. He also enjoyed working in his yard and was the “Dr. Doolittle” of the neighborhood caring for the squirrels and other animals. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
He was a lifelong carpenter and worked for Myers Brothers Department Store, Vredenburghs and was President of Quality Structures, Inc. where he was responsible for building the Flowers with Love building on West Jefferson and Veterans Parkway among other projects. He was owner/operator of Amerivinyl Windows Inc.
Visitation: 3-6 p.m. Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home
Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 19, 2011 at Blessed Sacrament Church with Rev. Jeff Grant officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Plains Cemetery.
