Melva was a woman of limitless gifts. Her servant’s heart was evident throughout her life, particularly as she worked as the housekeeping supervisor at Lewis Memorial Christian Village and as the bookkeeper for the Children’s Museum. That caring nature extended to everyone she met; never one to know a stranger, she treated everyone as if they were family. She was a talented seamstress and fashioned quilt upon quilt for as many of her relatives as possible. A masterful gardener, she took great pride in her flower and vegetable gardens, and loved sharing their beauty with anyone who would visit. Above all, Melva was the devoted matriarch of her large and loving family. She showed her endless affection by hosting holidays and family get-togethers, and spent countless hours cooking and baking for her beloved relatives. A tireless and dedicated grandma, she helped care for her grandchildren well into her 80’s, spending many hours cuddling with them in her backyard swing as they enjoyed the beauty of nature. Her investment in their lives will impact her family for generations. A woman of great faith, Melva was a member of Springfield Church of Christ. The most faithful of Christs’ followers, she reveled in the wonder of Scripture, reading her Bible from front to back, then flipping to the front when finished to begin anew. She reflected her Savior in her beautiful smile and her uncanny ability to always see the best in everyone. She will be missed beyond explanation.

Grief never ends…but it changes.

It is a passage, not a place to stay.

Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith.

It is the price of love.
