SPRINGFIELD – Maurice A. Ballard Sr., 85, of Springfield died at 10:09 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 2010, at St. John’s Hospital.
He was born July 1, 1925, in Taylorville, Illinois, to Harrison and Grace Agnes Durbin Ballard. He married Pauline Rush on November 9, 1946 at St. Mary’s Church in Taylorville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Maurice Butch Ballard.
Maurice was co-owner and operator of Southtown TV and formerly worked for Melody Lane Music. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in WWII from 1943-1946. He served with the Field Artillery Communication Division in England, Germany, France and Austria.
He was a member of St. Cabrini Church and enjoyed vegetable gardening and working crossword puzzles.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline; daughter, Jean (Charles) Nerone of Champaign; son, Paul (Lisa) Ballard of Springfield; daughter-in-law, Helen Ballard of Springfield; sister, Marge Farney of Springfield; 8 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 2010, at Staab Funeral Home, with a funeral service at 11 a.m., Reverend Joseph Ring officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where Sangamon County Interveterans will conduct military honors.
