SPRINGFIELD – Marjean Fitzgerald, 82, of Springfield died Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at St. John’s Hospice.
She was born January 1, 1928, in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Eugene and Margaret Hinchey Fitzgerald; they preceded her in death.
Miss Fitzgerald was a graduate of Ursuline Academy. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Rosary College and a master’s degree from St. Louis University. She was a social worker at Catholic Charities for many years, prior to her retirement in 1990, was a social worker at St. John’s Hospital.
She was a Samaritan at St. John’s Hospital and had served on the board of directors at Ursuline Academy Alumnae Association and the Central Illinois Community Blood Bank. She was formally a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the Academy of Certified Social Workers. She was a member of St. Agnes Parish and the Altar Society.
She is survived by a brother, Daniel (wife, Joyce) Fitzgerald of Modesto, California; two nieces and two nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 4 – 6 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 2010, at Staab Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 4 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 26, 2010, at St. Agnes Church, with Reverend Robert Jallas officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
