MARY ROSE (HOWARD) TAKACS, 89, of Springfield, died Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Bradenton Hospice House (FL) after a brief illness.
She was born October 15, 1926 in Springfield, to James P. and Mary Ellen (Orr) Howard. Mary Rose met the love of her life, Louis A. Takacs, in 1945, and they married on December 18, 1948 at the Church of the Little Flower in Springfield.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Louis, in March, 2016; by her parents; seven sisters: Vera DeFrates, Virginia Howard, Marlene Milburn, Shirley Harford, Dorothy Shaw, Helen Johnson, and Pearl Thompson and two brothers, Howard (Bud) Lauchner and James P. Howard, Jr.
Surviving are three sons: Louis A. Takacs, Jr. of Baltimore, MD, Thomas (Tara) Takacs of Bradenton, FL, and John (Jean) Takacs of Omaha, NE; seven grand-children; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
Mary Rose attended Feitshans High School and worked at, variously, Walgreen’s, International Shoe Manufacturing, Myers Brothers, Friedman’s Paint and Wallpaper, and Bunn-o-Matic. Mary Rose loved Big Band music and dancing, baseball, playing cards, and bingo. Her favorite show was ‘The Golden Girls’, and Mary Rose was a ‘Golden Girl’ her whole life–bright, compassionate, committed and competitive, and brought these qualities to her sons’ upbringing and to all in her extended family.
Visitation: 11:00 am- 12:30 pm, Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home in Springfield.
Funeral Service: 12:30 pm, Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home in Springfield with Reverend Mark Gifford officiating.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery next to her beloved partner and lifemate, Louis.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
