Mary E. Smith

Mary E. Smith, 82, of Chatham, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at Springfield Memorial Hospital. She was born March 6, 1940, in Anna, IL, the daughter of Artie and Tressie (O’Neal) Holmes. She married Gary Smith on October 12, 1963 and he preceded her in death on November 15, 1980.

She is also preceded in death by her parents; son, Thomas M. Smith; three brothers, Norman, Glenn and Delbert Holmes; and sister, Barbara Rose.

Survivors include her daughter, Janice E. (Richard) Reuter of Tucson, AZ; sister, Shirley R. Shreves of Chatham; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mary was a resident of Springfield most her life. She was self-employed as a housekeeper and retired as a nurse’s aide.

Visitation: 11:00 am – 12:30 pm, Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 12:30 pm, Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Cindy Lash officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
