Mary Ann Calcara

I first met Mary Ann through her BFF Marianne Gorda at a luncheon. Mary Ann will probably always be the most unique friend I have ever known. Mom and I have always said she was an angel sent from heaven here to earth and now she has returned home to heaven. My fondest memory of Mary Ann was the first time I went to her house. I burnt the garbage for her and cleaned the fire pit raking it with Diesel, Sarge and the girls - her beloved chickens with me watching. I remember she took a picture that first day because she couldn’t believe Diesel and Sarge behaved! So, there I was and while Mom and Mary Ann were talking she commented on needing to feed Moochie, the first of her beloved cats, and so I offered to do that and cleaned the area as well. Her bird Buddy was on her shoulder most of the day. Mary Ann invited us to stay for dinner and afterwards mom and I did the dishes and such. The 3 of us giggled so much that day and a very special friendship was born of which mom and I will always cherish. I’ll perhaps miss most talking and listening to her stories before going to sleep. As the years went on and I would go to visit with and stay with Mary Ann, doing yard work, cleaning the chicken coup, tending the burn pile, feeding and saving the cats from a catastrophe, or putting corn out for the deer near her bedroom window so we could watch them, it was always a pleasure. I’ve cried more this past week than perhaps my entire lifetime, from going to call her and realizing I can’t, to writing, deleting, writing again and editing more this condolence. My words cannot express the extreme sorrow for the loss of such a friend and my being unable to attend her funeral service, and so to Marty, Brenda, Missy, Micheal and Mark, I do apologize and yet I say “thank you” to you all for being who you are and the subjects of many of your mother’s hilarious stories that brought laughter and joy. Every one of you are truly special. Mary Ann, meeting you on my path I have immense gratitude. Saying goodbye to you is so difficult. Rest in peace my friend and blessings of joy to you.

My memory is from 49 yrs ago, while playing outside her house with Brenda and Marty she would call them into lunch. She invited me in on several occasions and the one thing that stood out the most was that vivid smile she would have on her face as she placed that plate in front of me at the dining room table. Never knew for sure if she realy liked me or thought I looked Hungry. Lol , but either way I will never forget her smile. My condolences go out to the whole family. And to MRS. CALCARA , R.I.P Your smile and kindness has been a memory of mine for the last 49 yes.

I sometimes think about all the time I spent at the home of Vince and Mary Ann while in high school and beyond. Many memories of my friend Mike and his family. Also the friendship my wife Sherry had with Brenda as they worked together for several years. Mary Ann always treated me as one of her own.

I met Mary Ann through my good friend Marianne Gorda...we used to talk three way on the phone and go eat at Golden Coral....She was a lovely lady and lots of fun...She will be missed for sure...RIP my friend...

To Mary Ann’s family, I knew MaryAnn through my aunt, and her BFF Marianne Gorda, She was a wonderful person and I enjoyed her very much. I would get to visit when I came to Springfield, since I live in Columbus, Ohio. She came to Columbus a couple of times and stayed with me, and was able to visit my friends and family. We all enjoyed her very much. She will be missed by all, but especially by Marianne Gorda, her best friend and my aunt.
