SPRINGFIELD – Martin (Lucky) D. Rapp, Sr. passed away at home at 12 p.m. Sunday, May 16, 2010. He was born in Springfield on Feb. 14, 1931, the son of Martin D. and Catherine Schrader Rapp.
Martin was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, William Saner and Bud Rapp; 1 sister, Anna Lou Franklin; and a grandson, Brent A. Phillips.
He was a Korean War veteran, serving from June 25, 1948, to Dec. 27, 1955. He was a past member of Eagles.
Lucky worked for Lincoln Yellow Cab for 40 years, retiring in 2003. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening. He loved animals and his dog Taco will be accompanying him to heaven. He enjoyed his family and was always willing to lend a hand to those in need.
He is survived by his companion, Mary Sullivan of Springfield; son, Martin D. (Candy) Rapp Jr. of Springfield; daughter, Lida (Jeremy) Parsons of Springfield; and son, John (Tricia) Tuttle of Tennessee; 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Staab Funeral Home, with a funeral service at 1 p.m., Robert Green officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery, where the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail and the Illinois Army National Guard will conduct military honors.
Memorials may be made to Animal Protective League Waggin’ Tails shelter of Springfield.
