Marjorie “Marge” Bell Stanks, 93, died at 12:25 pm, Friday, September 15, 2017 at St. John’s Hospital. She was born August 10, 1924 in Glenmore, LA to Fred and Hazel (Kennedy) Clay. She married Leo V. Stanks on October 4, 1943 and he preceded her in death on January 15, 2008.
Survivors include one daughter, Lisa (Tom) Duffy of Rochester; three grandchildren, Kennedy and Cassidy Duffy, and Todd M. Burke; one sister, Faye Cox of Louisiana; several nieces and nephews and her fur grandbabies, Maggie, Ava, Bryzzo.
She was preceded in by her parents; husband; son, John “Jack” Stanks; two brothers, Basil and Fred Clay; and three sisters, Ruth Eaton, Hazel Smyth, and Merna Brashear.
Marjorie was a resident of Springfield for most of her life. She was an employee of the State of Illinois Department of Revenue until her retirement and previously retired from Sangamo Electric.
Visitation: 4-7 PM, Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield with a Prayer service at 4 PM.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 AM, Friday, September 22, 2017 at Sacred Heart Church with Reverend Kevin Mann officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the WILD (Women in love with dogs canine rescue) WILD will prevent well balanced dogs from being euthanized at shelters, both locally and nationwide.
