SPRINGFIELD – Marjorie L. Mitckes, 91, of Springfield died at 8:59 p.m. Thursday, July 30, 2009, at Memorial Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 23, 1918, in Springfield, the daughter of Robert L. and Marie Kunz Owensby. She married Edward Mitckes on Sep. 12, 1938; he preceded her in death on Feb. 7, 2008.
She was also preceded in death by her father, Robert L. Owensby; mother, Marie Owensby Cox; a brother, J.W. Owensby; and a sister, Virginia Adams.
She is survived by a son, Mark A. Mitckes of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Loretta Sunny Owensby of Denver; brother, Robert L. (Audrey) Owensby of Naperville; several nieces and nephews; and many cousins.
Marjorie was a lifelong resident of Springfield.
She was a data entry supervisor for the Secretary of State of Illinois, retiring in 1970. She was also a homemaker for many years.
Marjorie was a member of West Side Christian Church, Beau Knots and Charlie’s Angels at Church, and Women in Study.
A memorial gathering will be held from noon until the time of memorial services at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, at West Side Christian Church, with Vaughn Beeman officiating.
Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
