RIVERTON – Marilyn J. Hamende 78, of Riverton died peacefully at home surrounded by her family at 12:35am, Thursday, August 19, 2010. She was born September 29, 1931 in Riverton, Illinois to Sorfie and Margaret Schall Antonacci. She married Marvin A. Hamende on March 2, 1957 and he preceded her in death on May 20, 2004. Her parents, step parents Andrew and Jessie Antonacci Maurer, sisters Doris M Antonacci and Betty Dennison Thom and step brother Jack Maurer also preceded her in death.
Marilyn is survived by 2 daughters Marva Hamende and Janice Hamende both of Riverton; son Paul (Nancy) Hamende of Springfield; 1 brother James (Doris) Antonacci of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, sister Georgian (Harlan) Hock of Alton, IL; step-sister Rose (Harold) Maurer Wehmueller of St. Louis, MO; step-brother Robert (JoAnne) Maurer of Riverton; uncle Robert (Trudy) Morton of Arizona and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was a lifelong member of St. James Church in Riverton where she served on the Financial Committee, the Senior and Funeral Luncheon Committees and was a member of the Women’s Association and the Quilters Club. Her hobbies included gardening quilting, fishing and travel. She was an excellent cook and loved her family and home. She worked as a bookkeeper at The Park ‘n’ Shop in Riverton until it closed in 1989.
A memorial gathering will be held from 9 am until time of the memorial mass at 10 am, Monday, August 23, 2010 at St. James Church in Riverton, with Reverend Joseph Ring, officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. James Parish and St. James Women’s Association.
