SPRINGFIELD – Marianne (Mitzi) Andreaus Berghoff, 79, of Springfield died at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, at her residence.
She was born May 14, 1930, in Gillespie, the daughter of Henry and Margaret Pizzini Andreaus. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Richard Andreaus.
Mrs. Berghoff, a resident of Springfield most of her life, was a special education aide for School District 186. She retired after 19 years of service.
She was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, St. Theresa Guild Bridge Club for 40 plus years, volunteer at St. John’s Breadline and St. Martin DePorres Center, parent volunteer at Little Flower Grade School, Sacred Heart Academy & SUSA Swim Team Booster Club. She was an avid Notre Dame Fan. Her grandson Tucker was her pride & joy. She was a devoted daughter who took care of her parents and aunts and uncles in Gillespie for many years. She was also a devout and faithful Catholic.
Surviving are two daughters, Mona (husband, Mike) Bass of Mahomet and Lisa Griffin of Springfield; a grandson, Tucker Andreaus Bass; sister-in-law, Jean Andreaus of North Carolina; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 4-6 P.M. Friday, Aug. 7, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home with prayers at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Christopher House.
Remains will lie in state from 9:30-10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church in Benld on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009, with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. with Monsignor Larry Auda officiating. Bruial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Gillespie.
