JEROME – Marian G. Conavay, 92, of Jerome died at 11:34 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2009, at Heritage Manor.
She was born Dec. 10, 1916, in Liberty, the daughter of Frank E. and Wilma E. Tandy Graff. She married Leslie J. Conavay on April 11, 1941; he preceded her in death on January 24, 1998.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Merle Graff, Bobbie Graff and Gerald Rex Graff.
She is survived by a daughter, Jan Conavay of Jerome; two sons, Gary (wife, Hilde) Conavay of Ballwin, Mo. and Douglas (wife, Kathy) Conavay of Rochester; two grandchildren, Laurie Conavay and Matthew Conavay; a sister-in-law, Mary Alice Graff of Napa, Calif.; a brother-in-law, Carl (wife, Joanne) Conavay of Bakersfield, Calif.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Marian also dearly loved her grandpets.
Marian was a resident of Springfield for most of her life. She was a teacher in Loraine and a substitute teacher in District 186. She also worked for Jaccard’s Jewelry, where she was a specialist in china and crystals. She also worked for Marine Bank in the safe deposit department.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where she was the first woman on the church council. She was also a 33 year member of the church choir, a communion assistant, and liturgist. Marian was a life member of Sigma Alpha Iota Fraternity and a member of the Henry Denhart Society, and received the Book and Flame award. She attended Carthage College.
A private service will be held, with Pastor Greg Busboom officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Educational Building Fund at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
