Marian B. Banks, 89, of Springfield died at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born January 6, 1924 to Frederick A. and Emma M. Neuman Blakley. She married John Banks, Jr. on March 6, 1948 and he preceded her in death on February 1, 1986. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters: Margaret Trees and Betty Ruth Brown and two brothers: Robert L. and Norman “Mike” Blakely.
Survivors include one daughter: Barbara J. (Mike) Emmons of Springfield, one son: John L. (Sheri) Banks of Cantrall, seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two brothers: Kenneth (Bonnie) Blakley of Portage, Michigan and Nelson E. (Liz) Blakley of Springfield, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Marian was a U.S. Marine Corp. veteran serving during WWII. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and a die hard Cub fan. She was employed as a tax preparer for H and R Block.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas Christell officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.
