Margaret R. “Peggy” Freeman, 85, of Springfield, died at 12:20 am, Friday, August 31, 2012 at St. John’s Hospital. She was born October 25, 1926 in Indianapolis, IN to Frank and Katherine Ryan Dower. She married Harold J. “Mike” Freeman on October 23, 1948 and he survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Patricia A. Freeman and Carolyn Camille both of Springfield; a son, Michael Freeman of Springfield; three sisters, Kathryn Harrison, Ann Marie (Jim) Clancy and Helen Forgas all of Springfield; one brother, Jim Dower of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her parents; three sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” Smith, Mary Smith and Irene Lavin and one brother, Frank Dower preceded her in death.
Margaret was a member of Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception where she was also a member of the Alter and Rosary Society and she belonged to Catholic Foresters. She enjoyed reading and caring for and spending time with her family.
She was a lifelong resident of Springfield and worked for twenty-two years in the Vital Records Department for the State of Illinois
Memorial Mass: 10 am Friday, September 7, 2012 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, with Reverend Zachary Edgar officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
