SPRINGFIELD – Margaret L. Smith, 70, went to soar with the eagles at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, October 23, 2009.
She was born May 15, 1939, in Jerseyville, to the late Chester W. and Helen Fritz Smith.
Margaret is survived by four sons, Steven E. Cleer, Paul L. Cleer and Philip E. (wife, Kelley) Cleer, all of Springfield, and William R. Heredith of Pleasant Plains; four grandchildren, Christopher L. Cleer, Lindsey M. Heredith, Steven M. Heredith, and Stevie Nicole Cleer; two sisters, Judy (husband, Lloyd) Friedrich of Havana and Janet (husband, Terry) McCoy of Athens; two aunts; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She lived in Springfield since the mid-1960’s. She was formerly of the Havana and Athens areas. She had dedicated 35 years of her life to the banking industry, the most recent being with the Athens State Bank.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home, with David Upchurch officiating. The family invites friends and family to gather immediately following the service until 7 p.m. at Staab Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
