Margaret Elizabeth Thornburgh, 96, of Springfield died at 3:35 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at St. John’s Hospice.
She was born Dec. 12, 1913, in Springfield, the daughter of Thomas H. and Rachel Rape McDonough. She married Gordon Thornburgh May 26, 1935; he preceded her in death Oct. 18, 2007.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; a son, George Thornburgh; three brothers; and two sisters.
Mrs. Thornburgh retired as a sales clerk from Bressmer’s in 1978.
Margaret was a member of Central Baptist Church. She was a volunteer at Kumler Food Pantry.
Surviving are a son, Paul (Marilyn) Thornburgh of Springfield; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Thornburgh of Springfield; five grandchildren, Margaret Lynn (Andy) Barkley, Bob (Theresa) Thornburgh, Phillip (Tonia) Thornburgh, Justin (Mae) Thornburgh and Josh (Jennifer) Thornburgh; eight great-grandchildren, Sarah, Adam, Aaron, Douglas, Daniel, Emma, Logan and Bella; a sister, Catherine Kochman of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 1, 2010, at Staab Funeral Home. Remains will lie in state from 9:30 until time of services at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at Central Baptist Church, with Dr. Reg Mills officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
