Marcella "Sally" L. Murray

Marcella “Sally” L. Murray, 94, of Springfield, died at 7:20 p.m., Friday, October 24, 2014 at Concordia Village.  She was born August 19, 1920 in St. Augusta, MN, the daughter of Clemens and Frances Imholdt Landwehr.  She married John E. Murray in Washington, D.C., on May 25, 1942.  He preceded her in death on September 4, 2007.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Clemens and Frances Landwehr, son Randall J. Murray; son-in-law Jim Fulginiti; five brothers:  Bruno, Harold, Clifford, Roman and Eldred and two sisters Clara and Delphine.

Sally resided in Pittsburg, PA for close to fifty years, raising her four children, managing Cox’s, a women’s clothing store, and working as a Teller at Mellon Bank.  In retirement, she and John moved to Springfield and lived here since 1993.  Sally was a member of St. John Vianney Church.  She had a wide variety of interests and hobbies, including a life-long love of reading.  Sally enjoyed the daily crossword puzzle and complex jigsaw puzzles.  Sewing, knitting and crocheting were talents that produced beautiful family heirlooms.  She was a “gamer” and loved playing Bridge and board games of all kinds.  Her years in Pittsburg made her bleed black and gold.  She remained a devoted Steelers fan.  Sally was an extraordinary mom and an exceptional grandmother.  She will be missed by everyone who was touched by her kind and loving heart.

She is survived by three daughters:  Sharon Fulginiti and Denise (Tom) Nudo of Springfield, and Nancy (Harry) Bruce of Pittsburgh, PA; three grandchildren:  Christopher Bruce of Tempe, AZ; Kate (Jim) Beatty and Brianna Fulginiti , all of Jacksonville, FL; three sisters:  Vivian Backes, Mildred Hara and Janet Walz; and one brother, Ranier Landwehr, all of Minnesota, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation: 9:00-10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at St. John Vianney.

Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at St. John Vianney with Reverend Christopher House officiating.

Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
